I questioned if there should be a sequel at all to a game that’s reached such legendary cult status. When the announcement of Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise came out of nowhere in early 2020, I was as shocked as everyone else but also a little bit apprehensive. I went on to 100% complete every version of the game, and it still holds one of the highest places in the pantheon of all-time great games for me. The original Deadly Premonition wrapped up many of my interests in one package: horror, mystery, bizarre and deep storytelling, a cohesive and immersive game world, production values that seem out of place and time, Twin Peaks and film references galore, and so much more. After taking the game home and starting it up for myself, I found myself in a world of strangeness, wonder, and familiarity - all at the same time. No one had heard much about it before its sudden release, and I was intrigued enough by the idea of a new horror game alone that I went to pre-order it to make sure I got a copy.
